Recycle your old kite – care about the planet

BlogRecycle your old kite – care about the planet

When climate change is high on the agenda and the protection of our wildlife and the world’s animals are at the forefront of people’s minds - there is no better time to discuss the recycling process of your old and discarded sports gear (in specific kitesurfing kite). Did you know that over 500 billion plastic bags are produced every year, and 97- 99% of them are not recycled and end up in landfills, as litter, or in our oceans!! That is CRAZY!
Well, here at KitePride, we are in the business of change. We want to change this shocking statistic! As hardcore ocean lovers, we thought hey - how can we do our part to save our beautiful planet and ocean?! Heres our proposal - don't trash your old gear - donate it! We will turn your old kite into a one of a kind up-cylced bag. Thats right - we up-cycle and repurpose your old kite - giving it a second wind. They say cats have 9 lives well.. your kite has 2!
So now for the question - when is the perfect time to donate your old gear? Well, that obviously depends on how often you use it, how well you look after it and other factors such as quality and the conditions in which you use it. But let’s generalise for a bit. If you are an avid kitesurfer who kite-surfs 3 - 5 times a week then your lifespan is around 8 months. If you are a less avid kitesurfer, and kite surf one a week then the longevity of your kite will be around 3 years. So, when do you decide to replace your kites?
This obviously differs for every person however when the time comes and you are about to trash your kite - remember don't trash it - donate it! Give it a second wind! Donating your old kite is another way to extend the life of your old kite. Its cool to think that someone somewhere will be wearing what used to be your kite as a bag. Extend the life of your old kite and do your part in making sure it doesn’t end up in landfill.
Discover our up-cycled repurposed kite to bag collection today.
